Sustainability Report: Borussia unites – Borussia gets to work

“There is only one planet which we can play football on”

“There is only one planet which we can play football on,” was how Hans-Joachim Watzke summed up the relevance of sustainable action in October 2021. Addressing social, ecological and economic challenges on a global scale and making active contributions to a sustainable future is the task of society as a whole, and thus also that of football clubs. We have identified the issues that are relevant to us and developed measures that need to be driven forward in order to meet our responsibilities. (Sustainability Report).

This includes the continuation of our commitment to social issues as well as our development to become a resource-conserving and climate-friendly organisation and operation. Like its predecessors, the fifth sustainability report was produced in line with the current GRI standards and for the first time also includes a progress report from the United Nations Global Compact.

Borussia is getting down to work. The internal sustainability working group, in which representatives from each department work together on the sustainable development of BVB, met yesterday. One of the topics was the Sustainable Development Goals – the 17 goals for sustainable development set by the United Nations (UN). As a participant in the UN Global Compact, the UN’s business initiative, Borussia Dortmund is committed to sustainable and responsible corporate governance. The German Global Compact Network provided input on the topic.

Subsequently, concepts were developed in interdisciplinary working groups as templates for decision-making by the management. Topics such as staff mobility, improvement of internal delivery or even health and prevention services for the workforce were drafted and discussed.
