Nordstadtliga celebrates successful start to the season

The street football league ”Nordstadtliga” (north city league) in the north of Dortmund got underway again with a kick-off tournament.

Just two kilometres away from the birthplace of BVB and fittingly, on the club’s birthday of 19 September, the street football league ”Nordstadtliga” (north city league) in the north of Dortmund got underway again with a kick-off tournament. After a year-and-a-half of Covid-enforced absence, the event attended by approximately 250 young football fans marked the start of a new season for the league.

The kick-off event, in which teams from different age groups played against one another on street football facilities, was rounded out by speeches from Hannah Rosenbaum (District Mayor of Innenstadt-Nord) and Jörg Loose (Head of AWO) as well as musical accompaniment by DJ Marshall Artz.

Normal league play has been running again since the end of September, with children and young people competing for the Nordstadtliga championship in various age groups. The leagues are split into the following age groups:

  • U12: Wednesday at 15:00 CET
  • U14: Thursday at 15:00 CET
  • U16: Friday at 17:00 CET
  • Over 16s: Saturday 18:00 CET

Location: The gravel pitch at Treffpunkt Konkret, Burgholzstraße 150, 44145 Dortmund, Germany.

The Nordstadtliga is a street football league that runs throughout the year in the north of Dortmund. It was founded in 2001 and is run by the Dortmund Youth Welfare Office, AWO Streetwork, Stadtteil-Schule Dortmund e.V. and various other schools and social institutions in the north of Dortmund. Since the end of 2020, the Nordstadtliga has been one of the flagship projects of the BVB Foundation “leuchte auf” and is also supported by Fan-Project Dortmund e.V., the BVB Learning Centre and Dortmund University of Applied Sciences.

In the Nordstadtliga, children and young people with different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds are actively supported and integrated into social structures through sport. In addition to being taught values, the children and young people are also offered a meaningful leisure activity that promotes physical fitness and general health.
