Sustainable service from BVB and DSW21 bolsters local public transport and contributes to CO2 reduction.
It’s still summer break – but soon Borussia Dortmund will be back on the pitch! After crowning the season by winning the DFB Pokal, which unfortunately had to be completed (almost) without any fans, many BVB fans will hopefully make their way to the stadium again by bus and train. For more than 30 years, travel in the region by public transport has been included in the home match ticket. From the new season, however, BVB and DSW21 are creating a service that is unique in the Bundesliga. The ticket for SIGNAL IDUNA PARK will then even be valid for travel to and from the game for the entire state of NRW.
Whether Dortmund, Aachen or Cologne, Bochum, Bielefeld, Münster or Siegen: BVB fans travel from all corners of North Rhine-Westphalia to home games at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK and ensure that their club has had the highest average attendance in Europe for many years – interrupted only by the Corona pandemic; 90 percent of all season ticket holders come from North Rhine-Westphalia. For all of them, the environmentally friendly journey from home to the stadium and back is now completely included in both the matchday ticket and the season ticket. Up until now, this service stopped at the border of the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association (VRR).
Borussia Dortmund’s Managing Director Carsten Cramer is pleased about this added value for many BVB fans: “On the one hand, the extension of the KombiTicket to the whole of NRW is of course a service for those fans who live outside the VRR area. But the sustainability aspect is also particularly important to us. The more comfortable, cheaper and thus more attractive it is to travel by public transport, the more fans will decide to leave their cars behind. With this in mind, together with our sustainability partner DSW21 and the transport associations, we are making our contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.”
“BVB and DSW21 were pioneers back in 1990 – as the first transport company and the first Bundesliga club to jointly introduce a KombiTicket,” recalls DSW21 Transport Director Hubert Jung. “We are therefore particularly pleased that we are once again playing at the forefront by extending the area of validity of the KombiTicket. This is a real added value for all those who travel to home games from out of town.”
